Well service pack one has been out for Vista for around a month now. Even with service pack one though vista still has some bugs to work out, and of course it still runs slow "right out of the box". At SabreTech we have found some things that will help make your new Vista machine run like a new machine.

1. Remove any programs that you don't use that came from the manufacturer, i.e., Dell Pre-installed Software.

2. Turn off that annoying "do you want to continue box", which is actually called user account control. To do that; hit the start button, in the search box type in user accounts, when the search box brings up the user accounts in the start menu click on it. Once user accounts opens, click on "Turn User Account Control on or off". Uncheck the "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer" box, then hit OK. Of course windows will ask you to continue one more time and then for a reboot. Reboot your computer and that will no pop up again.

3. This is probably the biggest thing that will speed up Vista, however you will lose the 3D look of Vista. Right click on "Computer" and go to properties. Once the system page opens click on "Advanced System Settings" on the right hand side. Then you will see three different headings on the "Advanced" tab. Under the "Performance" heading click the settings box. On the "Performance Options" window that pops up, on the "Visual Effects" tab, select the radial button next to "Adjust for best performance". Hit apply and ok. After that Vista has a more familiar look and will run a lot faster.

OF COURSE YOU COULD JUST BRING THE COMPUTER DOWN TO SABRETECH AND WE WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO DO THIS ALL FOR YOU!!!

> Afraid of Buying a New Computer

October 27th, 2007

Are you afraid of buying a new computer because you have a lot of programs that you do not have the disks for anymore? At SabreTech consulting we can move all your programs and data to your new computer as long as the operating systems are Windows Xp or newer. So if you need a new computer, give SabreTech a call at 517-437-7150 and let us do all the work to make your new computer work for you.
This is for all those people out there who still need to run an old program, like programs for Windows 98, Windows 2000, or even people of have purchased Windows Vista and need to be able to run programs that are not compatible. Here at SabreTech we can set up your old operating systems to run on the newest hardware available. Sam or Jon can set up a virtual machine on your brand new hardware that will enable you to run the older Windows programs. While running the virtual machine you will be able to use all hardware controls on both the original operating system and the guest operating system. This can all be done without rebooting your system. So if you are wanting to replace an old machine and are worried about not being able to use your old programs....... give us a call.

> A nice Mac setup how-to

August 15th, 2007

I just started writing a nice little how-to on setting up a Mac fresh out of the packaging, or even re-setting one up that you had to replace the harddrive on, or are just not happy with the way it runs anymore…

Check out the How-To on my personal blog by clicking here.

Paint, just the way we love it…

> SabreTech in 2007

July 25th, 2007

It has been a real adventure the past two years, buying SabreTech with Brad, working hard to get out of debt, and ultimately succeeding past our wildest dreams. I’m writing this to thank you, our customers.

Your faith in our abilities to service your IT needs and your return business have made this all possible for us. A week ago we had an open house to celebrate with our existing customers and let others know about our business and give away some prizes. The open house went extremely well, great turn out, and everyone had a great time.

We’ve decided to make this a tradition each year, so keep checking back to our website to find when and where it will be.

Again, we just want to thank everyone for their support and let you know we’ll be updating this blog frequently to keep you updated on what SabreTech can do for you…

> Site Redesign Complete!

July 13th, 2007

We launched our new website today and we’re really excited about it. Brad didn’t like green, I didn’t like the pictures, and it still looked like Josh was a part of the company… The new site is so much prettier and it has easier access to our downloads, phone numbers, and more accurate information in the about page… We’re still working on better content for our Sales/Product and Service pages, but it will come along week by week :-)

Dan has moved his personal blog to blog.behindlogic.com so go on over and check it out :-)

His blog has some really really geeky content, but for those of you out there programming in rails I’m sure you’ll enjoy his posts. He has a post on an ActiveRecord msaccess_adapter that he is building that I’m sure will be a huge help to the programming community…
